W. Schillig: German Engineering with European Lines
I’ve been working with my client Maria Menonous on her home and one of the companies we relied on was W. Schillig, for an amazing custom sofa that she absolutely loves. I also had the pleasure of seeing the company at the High Point Spring Market and there’s a real sense of distinction that comes with this furniture—the items are comfortable, rather than being stiff or “for looks only,” and they have the quality of German engineering combined with a European aesthetic.
A wonderful surprise this Market was the beautiful rug pairing in each vignette. A new, innovative collection of rugs as refreshing as the furniture.
W. Schillig’s focus is on creating sofas, chairs, sectionals (and now rugs) that are beautiful but also ergonomically advanced.
Along with the design of the furnishings, there’s a big focus on the selection of materials used to create the pieces—they’re meant to provide a lifetime of luxury and you can customize these items so they fit exactly what you’re looking for. When you invest in a piece of furniture you want to know it’s going to last for years and years, and maintain the same level of quality as when you initially purchased it, and that’s the driving force behind the W. Schillig philosophy. It’s an easy sell to my clients, as the leathers are soft and durable.
Some of the features you’ll find in the pieces in a technical sense include: hardwood frames, no-sag springs, spring coils, elastic webbing, top-quality leather and double needle stitching.
A little history on W. Schillig:
The company was started in 1949 as a basketry in Ebersdorf, Upper Franconia, Germany. Since that time it’s grown into one of the preeminent upholstery manufacturing companies in Europe and each item is handcrafted by a team of artisans. The company, while still being German-based, manages U.S. operations from their offices in High Point.
Casual Contemporary: In this collection you’ll see the clean lines and European inspiration the company is known for, but you’ll also find softer edges and a more relaxed look and feeling, which keeps things contemporary but also comfortable.
Contemporary: The contemporary collection is even more heavily inspired by European design, which you’ll see in the level of sophistication and straight lines—but the comfort is still there.
Motion: With motion it’s all about the functionality and you’ll find sectionals and sofas that have built-in details like reclining chairs and cushioned headrests.
Other collections include luxury beds, cushioned and ergonomic recliners and chairs and chaises. With the W. Schilling chairs you’ll see some of the most inventive lines and designs where there’s a sense of experimentation and forward-thinking design.
Add one of their gorgeous rugs and you’re well on your way to a stunning design, inside and out! Thank you for allowing me to scream from the mountaintops about W.Schillig, beyond my own designs, and through the Sponsored Blogger program. Put them on your MUST SEE list, 220 Elm!
