Halloween means dressing up, carving pumpkins, trick-or-treating and, of course, adding some spooky elements to your home decor. While your Halloween designs should include the works and creativity of your children, use these tips to incorporate your own adult pizazz into your home decor as well.
Traditional looks can be jazzed up by using natural decor in modern ways. Fill a clear glass vase or pedestal with small pumpkins and gourds and surround them with candles.
To be sure your decor looks and tastes like Halloween, cover the table with candy corn to complete the look.
For maximum impact, focus your seasonally themed decor to the most prominent spots in your home such as entry tables, kitchen islands, coffee tables and dining tables.
Halloween doesn’t have to be typical and kitschy. Look for subtle yet chic decor items to get that designer look. Shiny glass “poison” jars and bottles amp up the glam factor.
For drama, surround your vignettes with candles on mismatched candle holders. Use electric candles whenever possible. Celebrating around the kids is stress-free when you remove the fire and flames from your decor.
Adding glass gold and silver pumpkins to your display (the same ones you will use for your Thanksgiving decor, of course) keeps the look seasonal without being too creepy! When shopping for the fall season, you cannot go wrong with leaves, pumpkins and gourds…they will last you for the entire fall season.
For a truly macabre meal, substitute your everyday dinnerware with spooky skeleton plates and vampire wine. Sometimes the subtle decor items say so much more than the obvious seasonal decor.
